OUR MISSION

At Sonshine Outreach Project, we believe in the power of compassion and the profound impact it can have on transforming lives. Our non-profit organization is dedicated to providing essential life needs to those facing challenging circumstances, ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their circumstances.
Our mission is to bring hope, dignity, and a brighter future to those who have been displaced from their homes, are economically challenged, or suffer from food insecurities. We are committed to addressing the most pressing needs of vulnerable individuals and communities, making a tangible and positive difference in their lives.
HOW WE STARTED
Inspired by a shared passion for helping others, our journey began with a simple yet powerful idea: to make a meaningful difference in our community. It all started with a few dedicated individuals who saw a need and felt compelled to act. Through hard work, determination, and unwavering support from our community, we have grown into a thriving organization committed to feeding the hungry and providing hope to those in need. Our story is one of compassion, resilience, and the belief that together, we can create positive change

OBJECTIVE:
The objective of Sonshine Outreach Project is to provide essential support and resources to children and individuals in need, including food, water, clothes, local outreach resources, and personal hygiene products. Through our efforts, we aim to alleviate hardship, spread hope, and foster a more compassionate and supportive community for all.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of Sonshine Outreach Project is to change people's lives with the power of love. We want to show others the love of Jesus by serving the needs of our community.
OUR STORY

What would you do with $20?
Our story began with a simple challenge from my parents at Christmas 2016. Instead of them buying presents for our whole family, they gave each one of us $20 and challenged us to pay it forward to somebody in need. Then our gift to them at Christmas would be to share our story with them as to how we spent the money. My husband and I matched the money that was given and bought breakfast burritos. We put a breakfast burrito, candy cane, and bottled water in a lunch bag and handed them out to people on the street who were in need. The next year, we did the same thing but added a coat or jacket that had been collected during the year from random garage sale donations. The feeling of satisfaction we got by paying it forward was contagious and the lunch bags eventually morphed into gallon sized plastic bags filled with not only water and food but also small toiletries items, socks, and inspirational messages. At first we were calling them, "goodie bags" or "go bags" because they were designed for people on the go. Then one day when the bag was offered to a lady, she said, "these aren't go bags, these are blessing bags," and the bags got their official name.
My husband and I started making these bags monthly. We would put them in our car and pass them out when we would see someone in need. Eventually our friends at church heard what we were doing and wanted to be a part of our outreach so we increased the production of the bags and brought them to church to pass out to the congregation. The church members would pass the bags onto others in our community. Other churches have joined in our mission, some buy bags to give to their members and others have created their own bags but the outreach is growing. Would you like to join us?
